The Problem

Everyone wants their car to be shiny and clean all the time, but as we know cars get dirty. Some cars seem to show their dirt off more than others. For example white cars are the easiest to spot dirt on, where on the other hand dark grey cars seem to mask the dirt much better. No matter the color, cars get dirty and there is no way around that.

Car Wash Materials

When searching for car washing supplies I usually tend to buy my supplies online, there are a few reasons for that. When washing my car I like to have all of my supplies be the same brand because they seem to all work together, unlike buying everything separately and having to mix and match supplies. For example when you buy Meguiar's Three Step Wax you get the cleaner wax, polish wax, and protectant wax, and all of them work perfectly together. These types of products not only work better together but seem to usually cost less when in a set as opposed to buying those three different types of waxes from three different brands. The only problem is not all stores carry sets of car washing supplies and if they do they can be costly. This is why I prefer buying all my car care products online, because online they are easy to find, almost always in stock, and usually end up costing less then buying in stores. So for a good wash your going to need two sponges, one for the car itself, and one for just the tires and rims. You will also need some sort of tire polish, car washing soap, and something to dry it all off with (like a sham-wow).

Proper Car Washing Technique

When I wash a car I have a certain routine that I follow religiously, and it always seems to work for me. First I start by wetting the whole car with a hose, I start from the top of the car and work my way to the bottom that way gravity is on my side by having all the water run down from the top of the car. Once the whole car is wet I take my Tire/Wheel sponge and scrub all the dirt off of all four wheels (the reason for the exclusive wheel sponge is so that dirt and sand from the wheels doesn't stick onto the sponge and scratch your cars paint). Once all four wheels have been scrubbed I rinse off all four wheels and then give the car another light rinse so that it doesn't start to dry on you. Once that is complete I take my second sponge that I bought for the car itself and proceed to wash the top off the roof of the car only on one side and work my way to the bottom of that same side. That should leave one half of your roof and one full side of the car scrubbed. After that I continue onto the back end of the car getting the rear windshield trunk and bumper. Continue on to the next side and use the same technique you used for the first half of the roof and the first side but apply it to the next half of the roof and the next side. Always start from the top and work your way down so that as the soap and water rolls down its helping you clean your car as you work. Next you should have all of your car clean except for the front windshield, hood and front bumper. This was left for last because its usually the part of the car thats going to need the most attention due to bugs and tar. Scrub thoroughly as you did with all other parts of your car and rinse. Remember after you have scrubbed one section of the car rinse it off before moving onto the next, you don't want to leave nasty dried water marks on your car. Walk around your car giving it a good rinse making sure all dirt and soap has been removed.

Proper Drying Technique

Once the whole car is washed and rinsed thoroughly its time for the easy part, drying. Quickly get whatever it is you have to dry your car off and start at the top in the same fashion you did when washing the car. You should repeat almost exactly as you did when washing, getting rid of every drop of water you see. You need to move quickly though because you don't want ugly water marksĀ on what should be your sparkling clean car. Once you have thoroughly dried your car off your done! Enjoy driving around in your clean car for the next few days.
